WhatsApp is always looking for new methods to make your chats private and secure. WhatsApp announced a new feature today called Chat Lock, which allows you to protect your most private conversations with an extra layer of security.
Locking a chat thread removes it from the inbox and places it in its own folder that can only be accessed with your device password or biometric, such as a fingerprint. It also hides the contents of the chat in alerts automatically.
We believe this function will be useful for folks who need to share their phones with a family member from time to time, or for those times when someone else is holding your phone at the same moment a very important chat arrives. By tapping the name of a one-on-one or group chat and selecting the lock option, we can lock it. To view these conversations, slowly pull down on your inbox and input your phone’s password or biometric.
Over the coming few months, WhatsApp will be adding more Chat Lock features, such as locking for companion devices and generating a custom password for your chats, allowing you to choose a password that is distinct from the one you use for your phone.
Inform your friends about Chat Lock, which is now available.
