Channels are Coming to WhatsApp. A Secret Way to Follow What Really Matters

We do believe that there are some situations—such as those involving a non-profit or a health organization—where end-to-end encrypted channels to a small audience might make sense.

WhatsApp is now looking into this as a potential future option.

In Colombia and Singapore, where Channels will debut, WhatsApp is eager to collaborate with eminent international voices and chosen organizations to create, learn, and modify the experience. Over the upcoming months, WhatsApp will expand the number of countries where it offers channels and enable anyone to start a channel.

WhatsApp also thinks there is a chance to aid admins by giving them a method to use the app’s increasing payment features to create a business around their channel, as well as the ability to advertise specific channels in the directory to raise exposure.
